International Workshop on Development of Renewable Energy for the Mekong Delta
Wednesday, 16 March 2016

The Mekong Delta (MD) with a natural area of about 4 million hectares and over 18.4 million people, is the biggest agricultural production region in the entire country, and is considered the rice basket of Vietnam. Besides, the MD is also rich in fruits and seafood for export. In the past years, many industrial zones have been established, contributing to the development of the whole country. However, economic growth and improved living standards have resulted in huge energy demand. Alternative energy sources such as solar, wind and other renewable energy not only develop economy, reduce urban pollution, but solve the global warming.

On March 14th, 2016, Can Tho University organized the first international workshop on development of renewable energy for the MD (DREMD-1) to strengthen the ties between Vietnamese and international colleagues. The workshop provides an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of advances in the science and technology of clean and renewable energy development in the MD, and builds a network of scientists and engineers from many countries such as America, Denmark, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand to strengthen a number of concrete research collaborations.

International Workshop on Development of Renewable Energy for the MD

DREMD-1 is a scientific forum for the presentation of technological advances and scientific research results in a wide spectrum of renewable energy in the MD. Specifically, the workshop focuses on the latest development in: alternative renewable sources for green energy conversion, renewable energy generation technologies and its barriers to implementation, and renewable energy policies and programs.
