Open meeting with the delegates of the U.S Consulate General on cooperation activities of DRAGON Mekong-CTU Institute

On August 19th, 2014, at CTU’ side, Can Tho University (CTU) had a open meeting with the delegates of the Consulate General of the United States in Ho Chi Minh City. Warmly receiving the delegation was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Viet Dung, Vice Rector of CTU; leader representatives of College of Environment and Natural Resources, College of Aquaculture and Fisheries and Research Institute for Institute of DRAGON Mekong- CTU.

At the meeting, the delegation of the U.S Consulate General would like to learn about the activities of the Mekong Institute DRAGON-CTU, CTU’s activities in scientific research, resolving issues related to environment and climate change, collection and storage of data banks concerning environmental issues and climate change.


For DRAGON Institute Mekong -CTU, this Institute was founded in 2008 at the joint statement by the Government of Vietnam and the U.S. Government to cooperate in training and scientific research to protect the health of ecosystems in the major rivers, the impacts of climate change, to establish a global information center, strengthening the cooperation and share experience among the deltas in the world, especially the two large rivers of Mekong and Mississippi.


Representing the U.S. Consulate General of the United States, Ms. Neevy Laningham, Economic Specialist expressed the purpose of this business trip to learn more about the activities of DRAGON Institute Mekong -CTU, and looking for the potentials for cooperation with CTU, specifically the Institue to deal with future issues related to the environment and climate change. Ms. Neevy Laningham stressed the concerns of the cooperation and coordination at the regional and inter-sectoral levels rather than local issues. It can be said that the link between agricultural production, fisheries adapting to climate change and addressing issues relevant to the environment is an example of these cooperative activities.
