Dendrobium Care
Dendrobium
Phalaenopsis type Dendrobium

Dendrobiums love it hot! They also like neglect. There are of course many types of dendrobiums - with "Phalaenopsis type Dendrobiums" being the easiest to care for. Antler type Dendrobiums prefer similar care. Dendrobium Nobiles are a little more picky when it comes to flowering season - they like to be put in a cooler area for part of the year.

Preferences:

Humidity: Dendrobiums are from very tropical areas. Because they're so tall, get a bigger than usual humidity tray.

Light and Air: This is very important - good air movement prevents water or mold from getting in the leaf joints. If you do get mold, clean the plant with soap and water.

Watering: Water your plant when, after lifting the pot, it feels completely light in weight. Fertilize fairly often with a high nitrogen fertilizer like Wonderlizer 25-9-9.

Temperature: A temperature of about 62 is the coolest you can have before flowers will suffer. Dendrobiums prefer regular warm/hot temperatures of about 70-90day and 65-75 night.

Potting: Repot every year or two with medium to fine bark.
