On January 12, 2007, Can Tho University (CTU) celebrated the ceremony to declare the decision by the Minister of Education and Training to appoint the Rector for the new term 2006 – 2011. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Nhan - Minister of Education and Training -  awarded the decision to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, who used to be CTU Vice – Rector during the term 2002 -2006.

Attending the ceremony are representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training and the departments under central authority, leaders of provinces, cities, and departments in the Mekong Delta, universities and institutes in the country, and international experts and students working and studying at CTU.

On this occasion, the New Rector also announced CTU’s main orientations of training, scientific research, international cooperation, facilities development, and improvement of the staff’s quality in order to catch up with universities in Southeast Asia in the future.
