A graduate of the Advanced BSc Program in Biotechnologyof Can Tho University gave an interesting oral presentationat the 2nd Conference on Food Science & TechnologyFOOD SAFETY & FOOD QUALITY IN SOUTHEAST ASIA CHALLENGES FOR THE NEXT DECADE(9-12 November 2011, Can Tho - Vietnam). The 2nd Conference on Food Science & Technology “FOOD SAFETY & FOOD QUALITY IN SOUTHEAST ASIA - CHALLENGES FOR THE NEXT DECADE” was organized during 9-12 November 2011 at the Learning Resource Center of Can Tho University (CTU), Can Tho City, Vietnam. This is an annual event where international scientists get a good chance to meet and discuss different topics on food sciences and technologies. This year conference got attendances of several well-known scientists of the field; among those, Prof. Koen Dewettinck [Ghent University (UGent), Belgium], Prof. Marie-Louise Scippo [University of Liège (ULg), Belgium], Prof. Yvan Larondelle [Catholic University of Leuven (UCL), Belgium], Pro. Leslie Bourquin [Michigan State University (MSU), USA], Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan (Vice Rector of CTU), Dr. Tran Nhan Dung [Director of the Biotechnology R&D Institute (BiRDI), CTU], Drs. Nguyen Van Thanh and Ngo Thi Phuong Dung (Deputy Directors of BiRDI), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cao Ngoc Diep (BiRDI), as well as the leaders of different Colleges, Institutes, and Centers of CTU, and their co-workers.During the conference, the BiRDI group presented a number of interesting papers, i.e., “Examining optimal condition for pectinase and glucose oxidase activity in processing Malpighia glabra L. Juice” of Dr. Tran Nhan Dung; “Screening of high activity yeast strains isolated from palm juice collected at Tri Ton, An Giang, Viet Nam” of Dr. Nguyen Van Thanh; “Biological treatment of municipal biowaste in Can Tho City, Vietnam” of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cao Ngoc Diep; etc. Especially, a graduate of the Advanced BSc Program in Biotechnology of BiRDI, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc, gave a very interesting oral presentation entitled “Selection and determination of cultural conditions for aerobic cellulase production bacteria on sugarcane bagasse”.
