DERPARTMENT OF POLITICAL AFFAIS
In 1975, right after the liberation of the South, the department was named the Department of Political Education within the new organizational structure of Can Tho University. The department was put in charge of teaching subjects related to political reasoning, ideology and tradition and was made responsible for implementing cultural activities.
In 1980 the department’s name was changed to the Department of Propaganda and Training without any changes in its responsibilities. The instruction of political subjects was transferred to the newly founded Department of Marxism-Leninism in 1987. In 1992, the department received its present name, Department of Political Affairs, based on an agreement between the Ministry of Education and Training and Can Tho University
I. Organizational Structure:
The total number of staff members is 8. There are two specialized groups:
- Culture and Musical Performances Group
- Information and Propaganda Group The department is also in charge of managing two boards:
- Musical Performances Board.
- Bulletin Editing Board.
II. Functions and Responsibilities
1. To be aware of the staff’s and students’ political understanding and thought. To suggest to the Rector new directions and then to implement them.
2.To organize classes to introduce the Communist Party’s resolutions and educational policies and to disseminate political news. To hold student meetings at the beginning and end of each academic year and to sponsor cultural and socio-political contests.
3. To help educate students with educational, legal, artistic values at the request of the MOET and the University.
4.To provide a cultural life for students in the university, especially for students living in the dormitory (this is done in cooperation with the Youth Union and Student Union); to build a cultural house and club; to organize musical performances and sports competitions for staff; to show films for staff and students.
5. To design and construct a permanent display in a campus building tracing the history and development of Can Tho University so that students will know about their university and be proud of it. 6. To provide a productive educational learning environment (in cooperation with the Labor Union, the Youth Union and the Student Union).
7.To organize general activities at the university, such as national holiday celebrations, university ceremonies, dialogues between the Rector and staff or students, etc.
8.To publicize the university’s achievements outside the university and staff and student accomplishments inside the university.
