Department of Environmental Science
Environmental pollution and improperly using natural resources are serious problems in the Mekong Delta such as coastal wetlands depletion, mangrove depletion, agro-chemical pollution, environmental pollution in urban areas and industrial parks, and so on. Besides, the global climate has been changing drastically. To solve these problems, human resource needs to be trained and improved the knowledge and ability.
In February 2008, Environmental Science department was established to satisfy environmental research, education, and using the natural resources properly and sustain ably in the Mekong Delta. The Departments has function of educate students to be engineers majored in environmental science in academic system training. Addition, the Department also links to Denmark to educate masters (Master of Environmental Science and Management) of environmental science as in CAULES project (Cantho Aarhus University link on Environmental Science).
The department has two sections as environmental quality and environmental ecology. There are three laboratories as environmental quality, biological resource and environmental toxicity.
Department has one head and two vice heads. Head is responsible for general activities. One of Vice Heads is responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate training. One of Vice Heads is responsible for science research and international collaboration. Department has three senior lecturers, four lectures, one lectures assistant and six researchers. Department has two associate professors, four Ph. D., six masters and eight engineers. Staffs trained in Vietnam and foreign country with many subjects such as agricultural ecology, aquatic ecology, forest resource management, environmental toxic, aquaculture, environmental science, environment and natural resource management, environmental engineering, agricultural economy, crop science, chemistry, and soil science.
