Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Management

         In recent years, the global population growth, urbanization, economic and industrial development, cause many challenges and pressures of water pollution, degradation of soil, forest and biodiversity reducing, as well as an increase in fertilizer and pesticide use… these are becoming serious negatively affected on the environment. To solve these problems, it is necessary to have a staff with specialist knowledge and high technical skill  to use good environmental management tools. To satisfy the demand of work, the Department of Environmental Management and Natural Resources was established according to the decision of 187/QĐ Cantho university on 19/02/2008. The department is responsible for offering training in Bachelors and Masters in environmental management and water resource engineering. Conducting basic and applying research; transferring technology in many aspects: Environmental protection and natural resources sustainable use project, environmental management based on community, environmental strategy assessment, environmental impact assessment, GIS and remote sensing applications in environmental management, water supply and deliver.
        For future plan: the department continue to increase capacity building and develop facilities as well as improve the equipments  to ensure good serve in both teaching and researching. Concentrate on upgrade teaching quality, implement sciencetific research, transferring technology. Strengthen  relationships with other universities, research institutes and organization in region, develop cooperation in both inside and out side country which contribute to the develop of the department and it is the most important objective of department.
        To contend of the year 2015, the lecturers of department is about 30, including: 15 doctors and 12 masters. Yearly department has 110 engineerings and 65 masters. The department will be a leader to play a consultative role in environmental impact assessment, water supply and deliver and environmental protection plan in the Mekong Delta.
        At present organizational structure of the department is as follow with two sections: environmental management and natural resources management. The main duties of Environmental Management section are teaching, train researchers for the Mekong Delta and to conduct scientific research, transfer technology in forest resource management, urban and industrial management, coastal management. The section of Natural Resource Management which missions for teaching and participate in scientific research , technology transfer in water resource management, flooded area management and water resource engineering.
        The department has two laboratories which was supplied all equipments and facilities to serve for the research activities on environmental protection plan, environmental impact assessment, forest resource management, hydraulic management and water resource engineering.
