Research orientation of CAF to the year 2010
CAF has planned 9
themes for its research orientation to the year of 2010 based on
the needs of aquaculture and fisheries development of the Mekong
river delta, availability of its human resource capacity and
facilities.
Theme 1:
Application of bio-technology in health management of farmed
aquatic organisms (e.g. catfishes, shrimp, prawn,…).
Theme 2:
Development of seed production technologies for indigenous
species (catfishes, ell, spotted cat, mugil, mudskippers,…).
Theme 3:
Basic studies (aquatic organism physiology and biology;
aquatic toxicology,…).
Theme 4:
Nutritional requirements and
feed development/improvement for indigenous fish species (e.g.
catfishes; climbing perch,
snakeheads,…).
Theme 5:
Improvement of productivity,
economic efficiency, sustainability and products safety of
aquaculture systems (e.g.
catfish, prawn and shrimp production)
Theme 6:
Aquatic environment
monitoring/evaluation, water quality management of aquaculture
ponds and environmental indicators.
Theme 7:
Fisheries resource
assessment and management (fisheries
population of open waters and development of fisheries database,…)
Theme 8:
Socio-economics of
aquaculture production and capture fisheries (bio-economic
models of aquaculture production systems, socio-economic analysis
of aquaculture systems and capture fisheries)
Theme 9:
Integrated coastal zone
management (interaction between
shrimp production and coastal resource management, interaction
between catfish production & open water environment).
