Based on the Rector’s decision in 1992, the Science and Technology Information Center (STIC) was established out of the 2 sections of the University, the central library and printing.

In 1993 the Minister of Education and Training founded STIC, a unit of CTU with three sections:  Science and Technology Information Section, Library Section and Printing Section. In 1996 when rearranging the organizational structure, the Ministry of Education and Training and CTU Rector set up STIC out of the Science and Technology Information Section.

Its main missions and responsibilities are developing and managing CTU’s intranet, providing and managing the Internet services, coordinating the development and management of the applications and services on CTU’s network, supporting and cooperating with other departments at CTU to apply ICS (Information Communication Services) and new technologies in education, and cooperating with other departments in the field of information collection and dissemination.

Some achievements:

- Developing and managing the CTU intranet with fiber optic backbone; connecting the wireless networks of Campus 3 to Campus 2.

-  Connecting and widening the Internet bandwidth.

-  Providing Internet services and supporting other departments in using network services and other informatics issues.

- Developing and managing the CTU website http://www.ctu.edu.vn and other websites of CTU; helping other departments to develop their websites.

- Cooperating in action to develop more than 100 courseware on CD, VCD and e-courseware on the network.

-  Bringing into use the learning management system Claroline on CTU’s network

-  Cooperating to produce numbered files for use in agricultural and aquacultural extension, and for social and cultural activities. 

Future Plans

-  Network connecting all CTU departments and connecting the wireless network of Campus 1 to Campus 2.

-  Widening the Internet bandwidth and providing CTU staff and students with Internet services.

-  Studying and opening new technologies such as VoIP on CTU network, video conferencing system, networking services and application.

-  Managing CTU’s network to guarantee data security

-  Implementing a learning management system at CTU

-  Conducting research to implement multimedia technology applications.

-  Maintaining and developing CTU’s website and developing other applications on the Internet

-  Applying IT to CTU’s administrative affairs

-  Upgrading staff’s computer competence; developing and implementing training programs to standardize CTU staff’s knowledge of information technology.
